Valorie Michelle “Micki” Knuckles passed away
at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2010.


Micki was born on November 4, 1948 in Oakland, California. She grew up in Albany Oregon and attended Albany High School and Lane Community College in Eugene. She married Michael E. Knuckles on March 15, 1985 in Eugene.

She interned for and was certified as an addiction counselor during 1985 and 1986. She worked as an addiction counselor for Serenity Lane. On July 1, 1988 she was hired as Director of Treatment by Willamette Family Treatment Services. She rose to position of Executive Director at Willamette Family on July 1, 2009. She was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 30 years.

In September 2010 she was the recipient of the Thomas R. Dargan Award presented to her by the Oregon Department of Human Services, Addictions and Mental Health Division, for her outstanding leadership in the area of alcohol and drug abuse prevention and treatment. Formal recognition was acknowledged for her unselfish efforts over the years which have inspired others to maintain their commitment to making the community a wholesome and thriving place. Notably, she was nominated by her peers in the field.

She is survived by Mike, her husband of 25 years; son, Robert Eldredge of Eugene; brother, Michael (Ruth) Alderson of Albany; brother, Monte Alderson of Salem; sister, Jacqueline Rodriguez of Eugene; stepsister, Londa (Ed) Groah of Silverton; stepbrother, Roger (Kris) Grover of Tacoma, WA; stepbrother, Terry (Sylvia) Grover of El Centro, CA; stepbrother, Sjon Grover of Beatty, NV; nieces Andrea and Tara of Albany; granddaughter, Wendy (Sam) and great grandson, Zachary of Albany; granddaughter, Chrystal of Eugene; grandson, Jake of Salem; and numerous other relatives, very close friends, and her beloved pets.

She is preceded in death by her mother Wanda Burton; stepfather, Vale Alderson; stepmother, Marlene Alderson;
and mother in law, Lucille Knuckles.

Micki’s greatest accomplishment was in fulfilling her lifelong passion of caring for her staff and clients to the very end.
